The headquarters of Mechel Mining are located in Moscow.
Mechel Mining’s strategy implies a stable increase in annual coal production volumes to make the company a global leader for production and sales of major raw materials for steelmaking. In order to attain this goal, we plan to expand our production at existing subsidiaries, develop new deposits, make economically feasible acquisitions of new subsoil licenses, acquisition of new mining equipment, modernization of washing facilities and develop the company’s global sales network.
Mechel Mining’s priority project is developing one of the world’s largest coking coal deposits – the Elga coking coal field. In order to facilitate development of the Elga deposit, in December 2011, Mechel Mining laid the last section of track of the railway which links the deposit with the Baikal-Amur Mainline. Construction involved laying 321 kilometers of tracks. Development of the Elga deposit will enable the company to increase coal exports to Asia-Pacific markets, reinforcing its international position as a key world coking coal producer.
In 2013, Mechel Mining produced 27.5 million tonnes of coal, sold over 11 million tonnes of coking coal concentrate, 3.3 million tonnes of PCI, 2.2 million tonnes of anthracites, 5.9 million tonnes of thermal coal, 4.1 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate and approximately 3 million tonnes of coke.
